Here is what our customers think
Caryl,
Good morning! My dog and I are students in your facility’s training program - and I should have written you LONG ago - but it seems fitting to share this now - at a time of year for being thankful for our blessings! And we truly consider Gary a blessing in our life with our dog! ;o)
In July 2005, through our involvement in rottweiler rescue, we took in a 17 month old male rottweiler, as a temporary foster, while he was awaiting transport to a training/boarding facility in Alabama. He had worn out his welcome at two previous foster homes, and was an owner surrender from just north of Dallas. We really didn’t have room for him at our house, but a few days into his temporary stay with us, it was VERY apparent, why he was being bounced around. He wasn’t really a good candidate for adoption through a reputable rescue group, and as such, we felt he would continue to be bounced, until someone either physically abused him in an attempt to ‘break him’, or had him put down. So, that’s how he came to live with us and become one of our dogs. He made dog number five for us - and rottweiler number three.
For over a year, we worked with him at home, on basic things like leash manners, sit, wait, etc. He was very unpredictable around other dogs, objects that moved, cars, motorcycles, bicycles, etc., and he was so unruly, that walking him in public was an exercise of sheer strength on the part of the human on the other end of the leash. Having owned large breeds for over 30 years, I just ‘knew’ we could help this male become a successful dog. I’d participated in many basic obedience classes over the years, shown Boxers in AKC conformation and always had well mannered large house dogs that respected me as their ‘leader’. NOT the case with this male.
In July 2006, after a particularly BAD walk in our neighborhood, I decided that without some serious professional help, we might be facing a decision about this dog that we hoped wouldn’t happen because he’d come to live with us. He was the most challenging dog I’d ever shared my world with. That month, we began asking around about trainers in the area. We visited with a couple of facilities and quickly determined that we had more dog on our hands, than their trainer(s) or program could help. Thankfully our search led us to Gary, at Rob Cary Pet Resort. When I visited your front retail area and inquired about your training program, the staff (I believe her name was Sunshine, but I could mistaken) QUICKLY recommended Gary, after hearing a bit about our male, and the challenges we were facing.
I signed up that day, for Gary’s Basic Obedience class. I’m certain Gary thought I was a typical panic stricken owner, who was overstating the concerns they were having with their dog, because our male didn’t show his true colors until class #3 of that first session of classes. It was a turning point in our relationship with this dog.
I made a commitment during that session of classes, to keep us in weekly classes, for as long as it would take - and you know, we’re still learning, still moving forward, and STILL in classes with Gary - 2.5 years later. We’ve only taken a short break from training classes in the summer of 2007, after successfully completing our CGC certification together through Rob Cary’s CGC classes.
Finding Rob Cary, and being matched up with Gary, saved our dog’s life. I am positive of that! Since starting classes over two and a half years ago, we set several goals with our dog - and I’m pleased to say, we’ve accomplished every one of them, and are having to set NEW goals! Being in Gary’s class is never routine or boring. He makes sure to change up his training material to meet the needs of all the class participants and is able to quickly access who needs a bit more attention to move forward as a team, and who can work more independently and achieve the same progress in their training.
I’d recommend Gary/Rob Cary, to anyone out there, who might be wondering if there is a place in San Antonio, that can help them achieve a good relationship with their dog, where manners and real life scenarios are used, along with emotional control and respect. We ignore the unwanted behavior and reward the wanted -
and along the weeks, our dogs become more attentive, more eager to please,
and better pets to share our lives with.
I’ll say it again, without Gary/Rob Cary in our lives, we’d never have reached the point we are at today with our dog, where we can take him anywhere, introduce him to anyone, and get loads of compliments from others, on what a great dog he is!
It’s hard to completely forget the out of control, unruly dog he was back then, but more and more, we’re just proud of him and how far he has come under the tutelage of Gary/Rob Cary!
Happy Holidays Caryl - to you and yours - and thank you, for providing an environment where owners and dogs can meet to train, with trainers on staff,
who are qualified to handle even the most complex of challenges!
Best regards from one really grateful student and her dog,
Vicki Almy & Bryant

A friend recommended Rob Cary to us when we needed a place to kennel our dog. Immediately, we were impressed with Rob Cary. We were greeted warmly by the staff, given complete information about Rob Cary and it's products and services, and then escorted around the compound. After boarding our dog, we were convinced beyond a doubt that Rob Cary really cares about their customers
and their pets.
We then decided to attend dog training classes at Rob Cary. Not surprising, this was a fantastic and rewarding experience for us and our dog. Gary Oswalt was the instructor and he did a phenomenal job with us and our dog! Since basic training, we attended the Canine Good Citizen and Next Step classes at Rob Cary.
We have been extremely pleased with the results and now have a well
trained, happy, healthy pet. My wife and I feel welcome and at home at Rob Cary.
Most importantly, we trust Rob Cary to care for our beloved dog.
We recommend Rob Cary to everyone we talk to about pets. Steve and Teresa |
