Schedule Your Initial Vet Visit

Get things started on the right foot (or paw) by ensuring that your new puppy sees the vet. Your vet knows best and he or she can help you catch any potential issues early on. You’ll also want to make sure your puppy gets shots and that you have a spay or neuter appointment in place.

Puppy-Proof Your Home

A puppy-safe home is a happy home. Your new puppy is going to want to explore — and that’s great! He or she should have the opportunity to get used to the home they’ll be spending many happy years in. That’s why it’s so important to carefully assess your home to ensure there’s nothing unsafe for your puppy to get into that can cause stomach issues and expensive vet bills.

Start Potty Training

If your dog is at least 12 weeks old, feel free to start potty training! Typically, dogs who are between 12 and 16 weeks old are able to control their bladder and can learn to hold it. The sooner you start, the better you (and your puppy) will feel. It’s always a challenge, but once it’s done, you’re all set.

Socialize Your Dog

At the end of the day, your dog’s health also relies on how much he or she is able to socialize. It’s important to remember that all dogs are different, but taking your pup to the dog park on a regular basis is sure to have them wagging their tails! Of course, Rob Cary Pet Resort also offers dog boarding services and puppy daycare in San Antonio to help your dog socialize with others!

At Rob Cary Pet Resort, we’re happy to offer everything from pet supplies to boarding to training classes for your new puppy.
